Portland, OR

Image of a woman smiling after getting dental bonding at Sylvan Heights Dental in Portland, ORFor a quick pick-me-up to your teeth that can instantly improve the appearance of your smile, dental bonding can help conceal dental flaws that may be taking a toll on your self-esteem. Dental bonding is a special type of resin that is applied directly onto your teeth and can help address a wide number of cosmetic dental concerns.

Unlike dental veneers, which may take more than one appointment to finalize, dental bonding can be completed in just one office visit. They can deliver immediate results, giving you a more attractive smile in a short amount of time. We here at Sylvan Heights Dental love seeing the dramatic results that can occur after we apply dental bonding to our valued patients’ teeth.

What is Dental Bonding and What Does it Do?

Dental bonding is one of the easiest cosmetic procedures you can try to immediately improve the appearance of your smile. Made out of composite resin, the same material that we use in some types of dental fillings, it is applied directly to your teeth. It can help improve a wide assortment of dental concerns that you may have, including deep tooth stains that are resistant to whitening, chips or cracks on your teeth, uneven gaps and spaces, and teeth that are uneven in size or shape.

How is it Applied?

Getting your teeth bonded is quite easy and gentle. Unlike other cosmetic dental treatments, this procedure is not invasive at all and does not lead to discomfort to our patients. For many of our patients, we do not even need to use local anesthesia, but we are happy to offer it to you if you are nervous about proceeding without it.

Applying dental bonding is straightforward and uncomplicated and typically takes less than an hour to complete. We will start by making sure your teeth are clean and ready to receive the dental bonding. Next, we will select the color of the dental bonding that we will use. This will help ensure that it looks natural and blends in seamlessly with the rest of your teeth. Once we are satisfied with the color, we will then prepare your tooth by gently etching it. This allows the bonding material to adhere better to your teeth.

We will then carefully place the putty-like bonding material to your tooth and mold and shape it to your tooth. Once we are confident that the tooth looks good, we will finally cure the bonding material with a special ultraviolet light. This helps to make sure that it is sturdy and strong and will last.

Taking Care of Bonded Teeth

Avoid anything that can stain your teeth immediately after your bonding procedure. This includes red wine, coffee, tea, and tobacco products. However, you can take care of teeth that have been bonded just like you would take care of your other teeth. Keep brushing and flossing them regularly. Avoid biting hard foods, as that can cause the bonding material to chip.

Dental bonding can greatly improve the appearance of your smile in just one day. To learn more about dental bonding, or to set up an appointment with us for a consultation for this procedure, please give us here at Sylvan Heights Dental a call today at (503) 297-1471!
