Opalescence: Boost Method
Portland, OR

Male patent smiling after receiving Opalescence Boost from Sylvan Heights Dental in Portland, ORYour teeth are an important feature of your mouth. In addition to biting, chewing, and speaking, your teeth also play an important role in the quality of your smile. The enamel of your teeth is naturally bright white. However, there are many factors that can contribute to discoloration, which can significantly dull the beauty of your smile. Sylvan Heights Dental can restore the brilliance of your smile right here in our office with Opalescence Boost.

Causes of Discoloration

There are several different causes of tooth discoloration. These include:
•  Certain foods and beverages. Foods and beverages that contain high concentrations of dark pigments are likely to stain. These include coffee, tea, red wine, dark berries, and curries.
•  Tobacco products. Tar and nicotine can leave deep, dark stains on your teeth.
•  Certain medications. Medications like doxycycline and tetracycline can cause deep stains.
•  Getting older. As you age, your teeth can appear duller.

What is Opalescence Boost?

When your teeth are discolored, the quality of your smile and your confidence both suffer. Fortunately, the brightness of your smile can be improved. Opalescence Boost is a professional whitening method that is performed right here in our office. It is a chemically activated whitening gel that can help to provide you with a whiter, brighter smile in less than an hour. Because it is chemically activated, it does not require any light.

How Does Opalescence Boost Work?

Opalescence Boost involves the use of two syringes. One syringe contains 38% hydrogen peroxide. The other syringe contains potassium nitrate and fluoride, which aid is helping to strengthen your tooth enamel, prevent cavities, and prevent tooth sensitivity. When the two syringes are mixed, the gel turns red, which allows us to accurately apply the whitening gel to your teeth. It also enables the full removal of the gel once your treatment is complete.

The process for Opalescence Boost is fairly simple. We begin by using a shade guide to match the current color of your teeth. Next, a lip retractor is placed in your mouth. A special protective gel is applied along your gum line, which helps to protect these delicate tissues. Next, the Opalescence Boost gel is carefully applied to the surfaces of your teeth. The syringe has a brush on the tip of it, which helps to apply the gel more easily. At the end of your treatment, the gel is removed and the protective barrier applied to your gums is removed as well.

Opalescence is applied in two 20 minute applications for a total treatment time of about 40 minutes. The results of your treatment are visible right away. You leave the office with a brighter, whiter smile and significantly boosted confidence.

Is Opalescence Boost Safe?

Opalescence Boost is incredibly safe and very effective. The protective barrier placed at the beginning of your treatment by our team helps to protect your gums from irritation. The potassium nitrate and fluoride also help to protect your teeth from sensitivity. We are trained in the use of this product and do everything possible to ensure your safety and comfort during treatment.
